University of Texas at El Paso (UTEP) cornerback and team captain A.J. Odums has entered the transfer portal, seeking new opportunities for his final season of eligibility. Odums, a senior from Houston, Texas, has been a pivotal figure in the Miners' defense since transferring from the University of New Mexico.

In the 2023 season, Odums started all 12 games at cornerback, recording 36 tackles and tying for the team lead with eight pass breakups, ranking third in Conference USA. His standout performance included a season-high six tackles and a pass breakup against Middle Tennessee State University.

Odums' leadership extended beyond the field; he was named one of six team captains for the 2024 season, representing the Miners' special teams units. His experience and leadership were instrumental in guiding a defense undergoing significant transitions under a new coaching staff.

Prior to his tenure at UTEP, Odums played 18 games for the New Mexico Lobos, amassing 57 tackles, including 2.0 tackles for loss, one sack, five pass breakups, and one interception. His consistent performance and adaptability have made him a reliable asset in the secondary.

As Odums enters the transfer portal, he brings a wealth of experience, leadership, and on-field production that will be highly sought after by programs looking to bolster their defensive backfield. His departure marks a significant transition for UTEP's defense as they prepare for the upcoming season.
