NFC Three-Peats in Pro Bowl (76-63)
The NFL Pro Bowl isn’t what it used to be, but flag football and skills competitions still brought plenty of action. The NFC took down the AFC (76-63) overall, clinching the win with a 56-50 victory in flag football. Lions QB Jared Goff walked away with MVP honors, but it was LSU wide receivers who stole the show. Ja’Marr Chase (3), Malik Nabers (2), Brian Thomas Jr. (2), and Justin Jefferson (1) combined for eight TDs in a highlight-reel day for the Tigers’ alumni.
Rory McIlroy (-21) Wins at Pebble Beach
An ace on Thursday, a trophy on Sunday. Rory McIlroy made a hole-in-one on the Par-3 15th to open the Pebble Beach Pro-Am, and it turned out to be the deciding moment in his two-shot victory. He finished at 21-under, holding off Shane Lowry (-19) and Justin Rose (-18) to grab his 27th career win. McIlroy has now won at least one event in eight straight seasons, the longest active streak on the PGA Tour.
Quick Becomes 1st U.S. Goalie to 400
Jonathan Quick just cemented his legacy in NHL history. The 39-year-old Rangers goaltender made 34 saves in a 4-2 win over the Golden Knights, becoming the first U.S.-born goalie to reach 400 career wins. He’s now just the 15th goalie all-time and the third active player to hit the milestone. Not bad for a guy who’s still shutting down offenses at 39.
Gunners Go Goal-Crazy on City (5-1)
The Premier League’s match of the weekend turned into a beatdown. Arsenal smashed Manchester City (5-1) with five different players scoring in a statement victory that widened their gap on City from 6 to 9 points in the EPL table. Arsenal (50 pts) is currently second behind Liverpool (56 pts) with Nottingham Forest (47 pts) hanging around. If the Gunners keep this form, City might be looking at an uphill battle the rest of the way.
Iowa Upsets #4 USC on CC’s Jersey Night
Caitlin Clark’s jersey went to the rafters, and Iowa took down a giant. The unranked Hawkeyes stunned No. 4 USC (76-69) to snap the Trojans’ 15-game winning streak in one of the biggest upsets of the women’s college basketball season. Senior Lucy Olsen (28 pts) dropped a career-high, making sure Clark’s jersey retirement wasn’t the only thing Iowa fans celebrated.
Senior Bowl Sights & Sounds
The next wave of NFL talent hit the field in Mobile, Alabama for the Senior Bowl, and TCU WR Jack Bech stole the show. He caught six passes for 68 yards, including the walk-off game-winner (22-19) to clinch MVP honors. Notre Dame QB Riley Leonard (6-for-7, 54 yards) and Alabama’s Jalen Milroe (3-for-5, 21 yards) also got in some reps as scouts took notes on the future pros.
