Big 12 commissioner Brett Yormark has secured a three-year contract extension through 2030, extending his initial five-year deal that began with his appointment in 2022. Yormark took over the conference leadership during a turbulent period marked by the announced departures of Texas and Oklahoma to the SEC and the subsequent addition of BYU, Cincinnati, Houston, and UCF to the Big 12.

Under Yormark’s stewardship, the Big 12 has navigated significant conference realignment, notably outmaneuvering the Pac-12 by securing a lucrative television rights deal with ESPN and Fox in 2022. This deal, extending through the 2030-31 seasons, was pivotal in stabilizing the conference and attracting the Four Corner schools-Arizona, Arizona State, Colorado, and Utah-after the Pac-12’s collapse.

Yormark, who came from a sports and entertainment background with experience at Roc Nation and the Brooklyn Nets, has been praised for his aggressive and strategic approach to expanding and modernizing the conference. His leadership has included innovative initiatives like launching a leaguewide football pro day, enhancing entertainment at major events, and exploring new revenue streams such as sublicensing basketball and football games to CBS Sports and Turner Sports.

Big 12 board chair Linda Livingstone highlighted Yormark’s crucial role in unifying and expanding the conference, emphasizing his strategic insights as essential to the Big 12’s recent achievements. Yormark expressed enthusiasm about continuing to build on the conference’s momentum and preparing it for future challenges in college athletics.

This extension positions Yormark to lead the Big 12 through the next media rights negotiation cycle and ongoing discussions about the future of the College Football Playoff and NCAA Tournament expansions, solidifying his influence during a historic era for the conference.
