Utah football continues to reshape its backfield, adding former Virginia Tech and Old Dominion running back Bryce Duke as its fourth transfer at the position this offseason. Duke, a 6-foot-2, 210-pound back, announced his commitment to Utah and will use his final year of eligibility with the Utes in the 2025 season.
Duke began his college career at Virginia Tech, where he played two seasons and totaled 128 rushing yards on 29 carries. He then transferred to Old Dominion, where he carried the ball 46 times for 285 yards (averaging 6.2 yards per carry) and caught nine passes for 58 yards and a touchdown in 10 games, including one start last season.
A standout at Tuscarora High School in Virginia, Duke rushed for 2,852 yards and 36 touchdowns as a senior. His decision to join Utah was influenced by his projected role in the offense and a familiarity with offensive coordinator Jason Beck, who previously coached nearby at Virginia.
Duke is the 20th transfer portal addition for Utah this cycle and the fourth running back to join the team, following Wayshawn Parker (Washington State), NaQuari Rogers (New Mexico), and Devin Green (UNLV). With these additions, Utah has significantly increased its depth and competition at running back heading into the 2025 season. Duke is expected to compete for a key role in the rotation and provide valuable experience in the Utes’ backfield.
