Born to Idalmis Ferrer and Francisco Ramirez in Cuba, Race Imboden Ramirez has a unique and inspiring journey in the world of fencing. Growing up in Guantánamo Bay, Cuba, Ramirez learned to fence épée barefoot, showcasing his early dedication and passion for the sport. In 2007, at the age of 21, Ramirez made a significant life decision by immigrating to the United States. His path to the U.S. was shaped by being selected to receive an American visa through a Cuban lottery program, marking the beginning of a new chapter in his life. Race Imboden Ramirez continued to pursue his fencing career in the United States, representing Team USA at the Senior World Championships in 2015. His story reflects not only his prowess in the sport but also the resilience and determination that propelled him from fencing barefoot in Cuba to competing on the international stage for the United States.
