Sixty-two seconds. That's how long it took the United States to score at the 2026 FIFA U-17 Women's World Cup, and the goals didn't stop until the 90th minute. The U.S. beat Samoa 17-0 on Monday in its Group E opener at the Mohammed VI Football Complex outside Rabat, Morocco.
It was 9-0 at halftime. Ten different players scored, and forward Maddie DiMaria finished with six goals, according to Concacaf's match report.
A U-17 Women's World Cup Record, by Goals and by Margin
Concacaf called the 17 goals the most ever scored by one team at the tournament, and the 17-goal margin the largest in its history. Coverage republished by Yahoo Sports went further, describing it as the biggest win in any FIFA World Cup event at any level.
DiMaria's six goals are a single-match record for the U-17 Women's World Cup. She scored in the 2nd, 18th, 20th, 30th, 70th and 73rd minutes. Loradana Paletta and Carolina Reyna added two goals each, and the U.S. took 58 shots, per Concacaf. Only one other team since 2018 has topped 50 shots in a match at this event.
Head coach Ciara Crinion told reporters the team wanted a strong start because first games at a World Cup can be emotional, per the Yahoo Sports report.
Samoa's Second U-17 World Cup Trip
This one needs context. Samoa is still new at this level. The Pacific island nation made its first U-17 Women's World Cup appearance in 2025, also in Morocco, after finishing second to New Zealand in Oceania qualifying, according to the Oceania Football Confederation. Getting back to the world stage a second straight year is its own accomplishment for a small federation.
