FC Cincinnati's forwards took the shots. Tom Barlow alone had five of the team's 15. The goals in Tuesday's 2-1 win over D.C. United at TQL Stadium came from somewhere else: right midfielder David Doudera and center back Teenage Hadebe, according to ESPN's match report.

Doudera opened the scoring in the 14th minute with a right-footed shot from the right side of the box into the bottom corner. D.C. leveled in the 38th when Kimito Nono finished a through ball from Joao Peglow, a goal that stood after a VAR review. Hadebe won it in the 55th, tapping in from close range after Evander's cross from a set piece.

Cincinnati Did More With Less of the Ball

D.C. United held 53 percent of possession and blocked six shots, but it put only four of its 13 attempts on target. Cincinnati put six of its 15 on frame. Alex Bono made four saves for D.C.; Roman Celentano needed just two for Cincinnati. Nick Hagglund led the home defense with 18 defensive interventions, and Kyle Smith completed 49 passes.

Evander, Cincinnati's attacking midfielder, did not score but produced the assist on the winner, which is the kind of night the Cincinnati staff will take: when the forwards are blanked, the goals still come from somewhere.

Same Two Teams on Saturday

The win moved Cincinnati to 10-9-11 on the season. D.C. United sits at 7-12-11. The rematch is already on the calendar: FC Cincinnati visits D.C. United on Saturday night, Oct. 24. Catch up on soccer coverage across levels on the BallerTube soccer page. Stats from the ESPN match page.
