Le Moyne College finished its jump to NCAA Division I last June. Four months later it has a new conference. The Syracuse school accepted an invitation to join the Metro Conference, the league known as the MAAC until July, effective July 1, 2027, the school announced Thursday. ESPN's Pete Thamel first reported the move Wednesday.

Le Moyne leaves the Northeast Conference, which it joined in 2023 when it began its transition from Division II.

Le Moyne Takes Fairfield's Seat in the Metro

The timing works for the league. Fairfield is leaving the Metro for the CAA after this school year, WIVT in Binghamton reported, and Le Moyne arriving in 2027-28 keeps the conference at 13 members. The Metro's 2027-28 lineup lists Canisius, Iona, Manhattan, Marist, Merrimack, Mount St. Mary's, Niagara, Quinnipiac, Rider, Sacred Heart, Saint Peter's and Siena alongside the Dolphins.

Le Moyne sponsors 22 varsity sports, and the Metro sponsors 21 of them, per the school. It becomes the league's 10th Catholic member and its third Jesuit school.

A Return for Le Moyne Baseball and Lacrosse

School officials framed it as a homecoming. Le Moyne was an associate member of the conference in baseball from 1990 to 2007, when the program won eight regular-season titles, the most in league history, and four tournament championships. Its women's lacrosse team was also an associate member from 1999 to 2007 and went 18-0 against league opponents over its final two seasons there.

For Le Moyne men's basketball, that means NEC road trips give way to a league schedule with Siena, Iona, Canisius and Niagara. 2026-27 is Le Moyne's first season as a full Division I member, and its last in the NEC.
