Indiana University took a moment to honor one of the most legendary achievements in college basketball history during halftime of their matchup against Oregon. The Hoosiers celebrated the 50th anniversary of the 1976 NCAA National Championship team, the last team in Division I men’s basketball to complete an undefeated season. Led by legendary head coach Bob Knight, the 1976 Indiana squad finished the season 32–0, capturing the national championship and cementing its place as one of the greatest teams the sport has ever seen. Half a century later, the accomplishment still stands untouched — no Division I men’s program has completed an undefeated championship season since. During the ceremony at Simon Skjodt Assembly Hall, members of the historic team were recognized on the court while fans gave a standing ovation to the program that set the standard for excellence in college basketball. The tribute served as a reminder of the legacy that continues to define Indiana basketball and the nearly impossible feat that the 1976 Hoosiers accomplished.
