Tempers flare in South Australia as the Giants storm back to force a game three. Adelaide Giants 3 (1-1) def Melbourne 2 (1-1) The Aces out-hit the Giants by six but fall to the Giants in a fiery game two. Adelaide starter and Oakland Athletics prospect Jack O’Loughlin pitched 4.0 innings, allowing five hits, no walks, while striking out an incredible eight batters, only allowing an unearned run. Melbourne’s starter and former Major Leaguer Lewis Thorpe nearly matched O’Loughlin’s production, pitching 4.2 innings, allowing just two hits, a walk, and an earned run while striking out seven. The Aces maintained their aggression, although they showed a bit more patience at the plate this time around. They were the first to be in scoring position in the top of the second with a hard-hit double and was able to advance to third on a groundout, but was stranded by a swinging strikeout to end the inning. Philadelphia Phillies prospect and Team Australia member Rixon Wingrove was able to get a double of his own to lead off the bottom of the second. However, he too was stranded with Thorpe pitching a three-pitch strikeout, inducing a flyout to left field, and then getting the strikeout on a 2-2 count off a breaking ball to keep the game scoreless.
