DAVIE, Fla. – Nova Southeastern, the top-ranked team in Division II, showcased their dominance by scoring 27 unanswered points late in the first half, securing a commanding 115-95 victory over the Tigers in the opening round of the NCAA Division II men's basketball tournament.

The Tigers initially surged ahead, seizing a 15-6 lead over the Sharks following a sharp 3-pointer by Brandon Smith. Benedict maintained their edge, holding a slim 38-36 advantage after a well-executed jumper by Brandon Beidleman with 6:05 remaining in the first half. However, their momentum waned as the Tigers faltered, enduring a scoring drought and committing turnovers, allowing Nova Southeastern to surge ahead to a commanding 68-41 lead at halftime.

Despite Benedict's valiant effort in the second half, where they outscored the Sharks 54-47, they were unable to overcome the substantial deficit. Nova Southeastern asserted their dominance, leading by as many as 33 points at 87-54 with 13:53 left in the game, before Benedict staged a late comeback to trim the lead to 19 points.

With the conclusion of the game, Benedict concludes their season with a commendable 23-8 record, while Nova Southeastern, now boasting a 28-2 record, advances to the South Region semifinals scheduled for Sunday against Embry-Riddle.

Asanti Price led Benedict's offense with an impressive 20 points, supported by Tim Moore with 19 points and Gob Gabriel with 15 points. Brandon Beidleman and Brandon Smith contributed 13 points each, while Calvin McCutcheon added 10 points to the tally.

The Sharks dominated the boards, out-rebounding the Tigers 59-20, and capitalizing on second-chance opportunities with a 27-8 advantage in second-chance points. Despite Nova Southeastern's reputation for forcing turnovers, Benedict managed to pressure them into committing 22 turnovers while only committing 15 themselves, and outscored the Sharks 30-19 in points off turnovers.
