Cleveland went to the bullpen for all nine innings of Game 6 of the ALCS on Sunday at Tropicana Field, eight pitchers in all. For most of the night it worked. The game turned on the two arms the Guardians trust most: Cade Smith and Hunter Gaddis each gave up a home run and two runs, and the Tampa Bay Rays won 7-3 to close out the series and book a World Series trip.

Junior Caminero's homer came with two runs batted in, part of a 2-for-3 night with two runs scored and a walk. Yandy Diaz hit the other, also a two-run shot. Richie Palacios went 2 for 4 with two RBIs from the bottom of the order, per ESPN's box score.

Peralta Held It Together

Freddy Peralta gave the Rays 5.1 innings and allowed one run on five hits with three walks and three strikeouts on 84 pitches. Cam Booser followed with 1.2 scoreless innings. Tyler Wells gave up two runs in two-thirds of an inning and Ian Seymour walked both hitters he faced, but Kevin Kelly and Bryan Baker finished it with 1.1 clean innings.

Cleveland's Lineup Went Quiet at the Top

Chase DeLauter went 2 for 5 and scored twice and Nathaniel Lowe went 2 for 3 with an RBI for the Cleveland Guardians. Jose Ramirez was 0 for 4 with a walk. The rest of the Cleveland order managed three hits. Shawn Armstrong, Tim Herrin and Joey Cantillo each allowed a run before Smith and Gaddis took the late innings.

Tampa Bay finished the regular season 98-64 and now faces the Milwaukee Brewers in the World Series. Game 1 is Friday night, Oct. 23, in Milwaukee, with Game 2 there on Saturday. Stats from the ESPN box score.
