The Hawks’ real mistake wasn’t drafting Trae Young — it was handing him the keys too early. They skipped the phase where a young star learns how to win within structure and instead built everything around him before the culture, leadership, and roster were ready. That put pressure on his style of play to become the system, rather than part of one. Great franchises let stars grow into leadership. Atlanta crowned him the franchise before the foundation was set.
