North Toronto Soccer is getting an indoor home for the winter. The club is the anchor tenant of the Sports Complex at YZD, a 200,000-square-foot indoor and outdoor facility on the former Downsview Airport lands that its developer says opens this winter.
Field Recreation Inc. announced the project on Nov. 3, according to Streets of Toronto, and blogTO reported the same layout. It sits just north of Highway 401 and Yorkdale Shopping Centre, inside the 370-acre YZD redevelopment led by Northcrest Developments.
Two 75,000-Square-Foot Soccer Fields, One Under a Dome
The soccer side is two fields of 75,000 square feet each, one domed for year-round play and one outdoors, both on professional-grade turf. North Toronto Soccer plans grassroots, recreational, all-abilities and high-performance programs there. Field Recreation's partner list also includes JAM Sports, whose indoor turf leagues are already scheduled at the site from January through April.
The Racquet Center: Tennis, Pickleball and Padel
A 50,000-square-foot racquet building run by Premier Racquet Clubs adds six doubles tennis courts, one singles court and six permanent pickleball courts, and Streets of Toronto reports padel courts as well. Founding memberships are open now. No construction cost or exact opening date has been released.
