Kylie Kinner of Paintsville High School in Kentucky holds the state's career record for kills in volleyball and has now passed 3,000 of them. She has also scored more than 3,000 points in basketball. WYMT, which named her its Don Franklin Athlete of the Week, says its research found no other high school player who has reached both marks.

Kinner is a senior. According to WSIP radio in Paintsville, she broke the state kills record, which belonged to Paintsville assistant coach Megan Taylor, during the team's trip to Hilton Head, and she passed 3,000 career kills in a win over Russell. She is committed to Morehead State for women's basketball and beach volleyball, per WSIP.

What 3,000 Kills Means in Volleyball

A kill is an attack that ends the rally with a point, so 3,000 of them means Kinner has personally finished 3,000 points for Paintsville at the net over her career. For a sense of a single night: in a September district match against Johnson Central, she had 26 kills in a three-set sweep (25-11, 25-20, 25-10), according to the Paintsville Herald. That is close to nine kills per set.

The 15th Region Tournament Starts Monday

Paintsville won the 57th District title by sweeping Johnson Central in three sets, per WYMT. The Tigers are the No. 1 seed in the 15th Region tournament and open against No. 2 seed Belfry in the quarterfinals on Monday, Oct. 26, at Lawrence County High School, according to WSIP. The semifinals are Wednesday and the championship is Thursday, Oct. 29.

Basketball is next. WYMT reports Kinner already owns Paintsville's girls scoring record and sits 53 points short of J.R. VanHoose's school mark of 3,095.
