RBI Austin started in 2009 with 15 kids. It now serves more than 1,700, and on Oct. 23 it broke ground on a permanent home big enough for twice that many.

The MLB-affiliated Reviving Baseball in Inner Cities program is building a 33-acre youth development campus at 7401 Loyola Lane in East Austin's Colony Park area, with completion expected in late 2027, per Community Impact. Nolan Ryan attended the groundbreaking, CultureMap Austin reported.

What RBI Austin Is Building

The plan has three parts: an outdoor ball field of about 115,000 square feet for baseball and softball with dugouts and seating; a covered turf training field of more than 30,000 square feet with batting cages; and a headquarters with classrooms for mentoring, academic support and job training, plus a weight room. The goal is about 3,400 kids a year within three years of opening.

The Money Still to Raise

The campus is estimated at $15.1 million. RBI Austin has raised $7.2 million over several years and has started the final phase of a capital campaign for the remaining $7.9 million. The Nolan Ryan Foundation and the Ryan family are lead backers, along with the Round Rock Express, and Travis County has committed help as needed. The foundation announced a $500,000 endowment for the program in 2024, the same year RBI Austin secured the land.

Why It Works

The results are why donors keep coming back. All 23 members of RBI Austin's 2025 and 2026 classes are in college, and 21 of them play a college sport, per Community Impact. The campus is built around the kids who live near it, with ACT and SAT prep down the hall from the cages, a model the Youth Sports Business Report flagged this week.
