The leading rusher in Georgia high school football this season plays for a Class A team in Edison that went 3-7. Quintin Edwards of Calhoun County had 1,820 rushing yards through Week 10, the most in the GHSA in any classification, per the Atlanta Journal-Constitution's stat leaders published Thursday by Todd Holcomb.

That is 78 yards more than Pierce County's Jae'Veon Williams (1,742) and 128 more than Monroe Area's Cooper Shumate (1,692), the Class 3A and 4A leaders. The AJC spells the name Quinton; WALB, the Albany station that covers Calhoun County, spells it Quintin, and so does this story.

A 333-Yard, Six-Touchdown Night

The single best game came in Week 7. WALB named Edwards its Player of the Week on Oct. 10 after he ran for 333 yards and six touchdowns in one game. In a sport where 1,000 yards is a good season, that one night was more than a sixth of his total.

Calhoun County plays a nonregion schedule, so there is no playoff road for the Cougars. The season ended Friday with a 38-32 loss to Baconton Charter, per the High School On SI team page, which also lists wins over Jordan (58-6) and Southwest Georgia STEM Charter (44-22) and losses to Randolph-Clay, Terrell County, Sherwood Christian and Terrell Academy. Edwards needed 180 yards in the finale to reach 2,000; as of Saturday morning his final-game line had not been posted by the AJC or WALB, so the 2,000-yard question is open.

Why the Record Does Not Matter for This Pick

BallerTube's player spotlight goes to the best numbers in any in-season sport, not the best team. Edwards' 1,820 yards came on a team that gave up 30 or more points in six games, which means he was often carrying the ball while trailing, against defenses that knew what was coming. Nobody above him on Georgia's rushing list played on a losing team.

The GHSA's full stat leaders are updated weekly by the AJC. Georgia coverage continues on the BallerTube GHSA page.
