New England took nine shots on Decision Day and scored three times. The New York Red Bulls took 20, put 11 on target, and scored twice. The difference was Matt Turner, who made eight saves in a game where his counterpart, Ethan Horvath, had to make one.
The Revolution beat the Red Bulls 3-2 at Gillette Stadium on Wednesday, Oct. 28, in the last game of the MLS regular season. New England finished with 18 wins, 10 losses and 4 draws for 58 points, second in the Eastern Conference behind Nashville, per ESPN's match page. New York ended 11-15-6 with 39 points, out of the playoffs.
Dor Turgeman's Two Goals and Daniel Gazdag's Winner
Dor Turgeman scored in the 9th minute on a right-footed shot from outside the box, set up by Carles Gil, and again in the 46th from close range off a Luca Langoni pass. Turgeman took five of New England's nine shots. Cade Cowell pulled one back in the 51st and Julian Hall, who put five of his six shots on target, tied it in the 64th from Emil Forsberg's assist. Daniel Gazdag's left-footed finish from the six-yard box in the 83rd won it.
New England had 51.3 percent of the ball and completed 447 of 516 passes, but the Red Bulls won the corner count 6-2 and the shot count by 11. Turner's eight saves were the most by either keeper in the game by seven.
What Four Straight Wins Mean for Sunday
The result was the Revolution's fourth straight win after back-to-back 3-0 losses to Real Salt Lake and Seattle. Their reward is a home playoff opener on Sunday, Nov. 1, at 7 p.m. ET against Inter Miami, with Lionel Messi eligible despite his yellow-card total, according to ESPN. Miami drew FC Cincinnati 2-2 on Decision Day and lost at Red Bull Arena four days before that.
