The first Game 7 in WNBA Finals history turned on two numbers that never make the highlight reel. Golden State went 15 of 16 at the free throw line. Atlanta went 6 of 30 from three. Everything Gabby Williams did after halftime sat on top of that gap.

The Golden State Valkyries beat the Atlanta Dream 68-63 at Chase Center on Saturday night in front of 18,064 to win the championship in the franchise's second season. Atlanta led 30-24 at the half. Golden State won the third quarter 21-14 and the fourth 23-19.

Gabby Williams: 30 Points, 28 of Them in the Second Half

Williams finished with 30 points on 10 of 23 shooting, 4 of 8 from three and 6 of 6 at the line, with four blocks, two steals, three rebounds and two assists in 38 minutes, per the ESPN box score. She had two points at halftime. Her 28 second-half points set a Finals record for a half, per the WNBA's recap, and she was named Finals MVP. With the game tied at 57 inside the last two and a half minutes, her three put Golden State ahead for good.

Kiah Stokes grabbed 13 rebounds with two blocks and eight points, and Veronica Burton had 10 points, 10 rebounds and five assists. Tiffany Hayes added 11. Golden State blocked eight shots as a team.

Rhyne Howard Went 0 for 7 From Three

Jordin Canada led Atlanta with 18 points and five assists, and Allisha Gray scored 16 on 5 of 16 shooting. Angel Reese had eight points, 12 rebounds and four turnovers. Rhyne Howard played 38 minutes and went 3 of 14, including 0 of 7 from three. The Dream shot 33 percent overall and 11 of 15 at the line.

Both teams had 10 offensive rebounds, and Atlanta committed 12 turnovers to Golden State's 11, so the game came down to shooting. Golden State outscored the Dream by four at the line and by three from the arc, and won by five.

The title is Golden State's first; Atlanta, which forced Game 7 with an 80-69 win Thursday, is still looking for the franchise's first championship. More on the league lives on the BallerTube WNBA page.
