No boys soccer player in Minnesota has scored more this fall than Shay Richter. The St. John's Prep senior forward has 38 goals, according to Strib Varsity, the Star Tribune's high school site, which listed him at 3.17 goals per game in its section tournament preview.
In soccer, a single goal often decides a game. Richter has scored at least three in six different games this season, Strib Varsity reported. St. John's Prep, the Johnnies, are based in Collegeville.
Seven Goals at Melrose and Four Against Crookston
His best night came in an 8-0 win at Melrose in mid-September, when he scored seven of the eight goals. The St. Cloud Times listed the seven-goal game among its athlete of the week nominees.
On Oct. 6, he had a hat trick in the first half of a 9-1 win over Crookston and added a fourth early in the second half, KROX radio reported. That win moved St. John's Prep to 10-2.
Where 38 Goals Ranks in Minnesota This Fall
Behind Richter on Strib Varsity's scoring list are Grand Rapids senior Fynn Schlicht with 27 and Maple Grove senior Parker Carlson with 26. Coach Ganard Orionzi credited Richter's speed and finishing in Strib Varsity's coverage.
