The professional flag football league the NFL announced in March now has a name. It is Premier Flag, and it will play its first season in summer 2027 with both a men's and a women's league.

The NFL and TMRW Sports, the company behind the TGL golf league, unveiled the brand on Nov. 2 in an official Premier Flag release. All 32 NFL club owners are investors, along with institutional investors, current and former NFL players and women athletes.

One Host City and a Stadium Built for Flag Football

Premier Flag will operate out of a single U.S. host city and league hub, which has not been named; the league said an announcement is coming in the coming weeks. Architecture firm Populous is designing what the league calls the first stadium purpose-built for flag football.

The talent pipeline has started. A combine at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in London on Oct. 6 drew athletes from ten countries, a talent identification event is set for Mexico City on Nov. 22 and 23, and the main combine follows in 2027. A Premier Flag Showcase will run during Super Bowl LXI week in Los Angeles.

Youth Flag Football Numbers Behind the Bet

The league cited 4.1 million youth flag players in the U.S., up more than 50 percent since 2020, and high school flag football in 40 states, 25 of them sanctioning it at the varsity level. TMRW also holds a strategic partnership with IFAF, the federation that runs flag football at the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics.

Not everyone is sold. Buying Sandlot, the youth sports business newsletter, wrote that the release was thin on infrastructure and business detail and questioned whether a one-stadium, made-for-TV format can capture in-person demand.

The host city is the next piece of news to watch. More on the sport is on the BallerTube flag football page.
