Ashlyn Quiri has 496 kills this season. Only two players in Arizona have more, according to the AIA's statewide leaderboard: Saguaro's Sloan Kribel (549) and Eastmark's Kaitlynn Barnett (545).

The Ironwood Ridge senior outside hitter from Oro Valley also owns 1,593 career kills, a Southern Arizona record, per AllSportsTucson, which named her its October female athlete of the month. She passed the old mark of 1,514, set by Tucson High's Mia Sokolowski from 2012 to 2015. Quiri is committed to Florida State.

Ashlyn Quiri in October: 202 Kills in 40 Sets

Her October was the best stretch of the year: 202 kills in 40 sets over 15 matches, 5.1 kills per set, per AllSportsTucson. Ironwood Ridge went 12-3 that month and 8-0 in the 4A Kino region to win the title.

Kills per set is the stat that matters most for an outside hitter, because it strips out how long a match lasted. At 5.1 a set, Quiri is personally ending roughly one of every five points her team needs to win a 25-point set. AllSportsTucson also reports that MaxPreps rates Ironwood Ridge No. 12 in the state and the top team in Southern Arizona.

Ironwood Ridge's Supporting Cast and the 4A State Bracket

She is not doing it alone. Teammate Kallie George has 407 kills, 10th in the state, and setter Marcella Landers has 977 assists, fourth, according to the AIA leaderboard. The Nighthawks are 26-11.

Ironwood Ridge is the No. 1 seed in the AIA 4A state championship bracket and hosts No. 16 Poston Butte on Thursday at 6 p.m. Poston Butte's Rylie Miller has 553 digs, fourth in Arizona, so the state's No. 3 attacker meets one of its best defenders in round one.
