Tyrel Bauer played 10 minutes and 44 seconds on Tuesday night, the second-fewest of any Winnipeg defenseman. With 2:39 left in regulation and his team down four goals, he scored his first goal of the season. Forty-two seconds later he set up the next one, and the ESPN box score shows how the rest went.
The Winnipeg Jets beat the Montreal Canadiens 5-4 in overtime at the Bell Centre in front of 20,962. Winnipeg improved to 5-8-3. Montreal is 9-3-3.
Four Goals in the Last 2:39 of Regulation
Montreal led 4-0 when Cole Caufield scored his second goal of the night, and 10th of the season, 46 seconds into the third period. Then Bauer scored at 17:21, assisted by Cole Koepke and Dylan DeMelo. Morgan Barron made it 4-2 at 18:03 off Bauer and DeMelo. Kyle Connor scored at 19:00 and again at 19:27, both set up by Mark Scheifele, to tie it.
The Associated Press called it the latest four-goal comeback in NHL history. Dylan Samberg finished it 3:30 into overtime, from Adam Lowry and Gabriel Vilardi.
Bauer's Line, and the 47 Shots Behind It
Bauer finished with a goal, an assist, a plus-2 rating and two hits. DeMelo had two assists, both on the first two goals. Connor's two goals were his 12th and 13th of the season, in 27:50 of ice time, and Scheifele had two assists.
The comeback had been building all night. Winnipeg outshot Montreal 47-22 and won 42 of 81 faceoffs. Jacob Fowler made 42 saves for the Canadiens. Stuart Skinner stopped 18 of 22 for Winnipeg. Per AP, the win snapped a nine-game losing streak that included a 7-0 loss at Carolina on Sunday.
Earlier, Arber and Florian Xhekaj both assisted on Owen Beck's opening goal, which AP said made them the first brothers to record a point on the same Canadiens goal since Andrei and Sergei Kostitsyn in 2009. Find more hockey on BallerTube's NHL page.
