Fiji's women's rugby league team is at its first World Cup, and it is still playing in the final week. The Bulikula beat France 54-6 at Cbus Super Stadium on the Gold Coast on Saturday, Oct. 31, scoring 11 tries to clinch a semifinal place, according to RNZ and the Fiji Sun.
It is the first World Cup semifinal for the Fiji women's program. Their opponent is Australia's Jillaroos, at Allianz Stadium in Sydney on Sunday, Nov. 8.
Ten Try Scorers
Tahlia Marshall scored twice. Maria Paseka, Aliti Namoce and Losana Lutu scored in a first half Fiji controlled from the start, and Cassie Staples, Latisha Smythe, Leilani Ahsam, Taina Naividi and Lorren Ieli added second-half tries, per RNZ. Stecy Bessiere scored France's only try.
"The scoreboard didn't really reflect the intensity of the game," fullback Staples told RNZ.
The win followed a 40-4 rout of Papua New Guinea in the pool stage, which outlets including the Illawarra Mercury called a record win for the team.
The Other Semifinal
Samoa faces New Zealand in the other women's semifinal, per RNZ. Whatever happens in Sydney, Fiji has already gone further than any Bulikula team before it. More rugby is on BallerTube's rugby league page.
