Pratt, Kansas, is building an indoor sports complex big enough for five college basketball courts at once. The city broke ground on the 109,000-square-foot Point Pavilion on Oct. 28, east of the Bill Keller Family Sports Complex, according to the Hutch Post and Youth Sports Business Report.
How Pratt Is Paying for It
The project is estimated at $12.2 million to $14.4 million, and the city is pursuing the full $14.4 million build. Funding comes from a $2.6 million Kansas Department of Wildlife and Parks grant, $2 million in hotel guest tax revenue and private donations. No property or sales tax money goes into construction, per the reports.
What Is Inside
- Six tennis courts that convert into five college basketball courts.
- A 90-by-200-foot indoor turf area.
- About 10,000 square feet of wrestling space, enough for four college-size mats.
- Four locker rooms, a training room and more than 2,000 square feet of suites overlooking the track.
Outside, the plans add four pickleball courts, a basketball court, a turf pitch-and-putt and about 100 parking spaces.
The Tournament Pitch
The whole design is aimed at weekends that fill hotels. Mid-America Youth Basketball has expressed interest in bringing five to 10 weekend tournaments, and four NCAA Division I tennis programs, including Army, have committed to an inaugural event, the reports said. The city is also in talks with the NJCAA about a national indoor tennis tournament and is targeting state high school track postseason meets, wrestling tournaments and summer camps.
Organizers project about $300,000 in local spending per tournament weekend. No opening date has been announced. Looking for an event near you? Start with BallerTube's youth sports events hub, and follow the business side on our youth sports page.
